Excellent PC games from the late 90's to very early 00's?
I want to play some good PC games from before because I'm getting bored of all these new games that only focus on looking pretty while forgetting about what really makes a game shine (great story for example). Anybody have good suggestions for lesser known games that are amazing (or at least pretty good)?
Please don't say Half-Life, Fallout, Starcraft, C&C, Rainbow Six, Sims, System Shock, Deus Ex, Quake, Doom, Civ, Jedi Knight and all the popular games cause I've played them already.
No console games.
Earthsiege & Earthsiege 2, Missionforce: Cyberstorm & Cyberstorm 2, Starsiege. All awesome gameplay, all have an awesome story (same universe). In general, just check out old games by Sierra, they had a real good variety of game types, and high quality stuff, too - I'd recommend the Quest for Glory series and Lords of Magic.
Commander Keen is pretty cool. One of the first PC side-scroller/platformers, made by id Software around the time they were working on Doom II.
Silpheed, if you can find it, was a sweet top-scrolling space shooter.
Sacred is a Diablo II that doesn't suck.
Finally, this may be too recent and too popular, but if you're looking for story in an FPS, trying playing F.E.A.R. That game is legitimately terrifying (due to the story and the imagery), unlike the Doom III "oh look something jumped out at me" standard that FPS games like to claim means "scary."
