Do ya think he's an Appaloosa?
Hi,
I have a horse that is registered as a Paint. But quite a few people (including the vet and farrier) refer to him as an Appaloosa. He is white with reddish speckles all over except for his lower legs and face. His face is all white with black mottling around his eyes and mouth. He also has black mottling around his sheath and under his tail. Also, when he's wet, you can see black spots on pink skin throughout his body. He doesn't have striped hooves. His ears are reddish with white and brown speckles. The reddish speckles on his body are not exactly 'spots' . More like freckles. He is such a beautiful boy and I'm very interested in what he would be considered. I'm new at this, so please excuse any of my ditzyness 
His original owner registered him as Paint and also registered him as Pinto.

I looked at the pic. He doesn't look like that. Most of his speckles arent as large. Some are, though.
He's definitely a Paint, then. Does he look like this;

That's a sabino coat pattern, a variety of overo pinto. Paints/pintos have so many varieties of coloration, some of which may be similar to the appaloosa patterns, but which are usually genetically very different.
The mottling could very easily be a champagne gene. Paints were primarily bred from QHs, and that gene is definitely in the gene pool (I have one myself). I'd think that more likely than an appaloosa gene.
Apicture would really help.
