How to buy a diamond online?
I've been looking to find a loose diamond online because it's MUCH less expensive than going into the jewelry stores to buy, and you don't have to deal with the pushy sales people. I've been doing a bit of research, but am having a bit of trouble deciding which diamond to purchase. I don't want any inclusions shown to the naked eye and would like to avoid any yellow color. I've found this one diamond online and can't seem to figure out why its so inexpensive....here are the specs:
EGL, princess cut, cut: good, carat: 1.19, G color, SI1 clarity, length to width: 1.01, depth 77%, table 65%, girdle M and the price is $2712. I can't seem to figure out why this diamond is so much larger than all the others I've looked at in my price range. Any help would be great!!!!
Thanks!
This is a very odd price for the diamond, I agree. I used a diamond search engine (http://www.diamondpriceguru.com/ but there are others) and plugged in the stats you gave: princess cut, "good" cut grade, G color, SI clarity, carat 1.19. It didn't have any exact matches, so I expanded the search to carat sizes 1.10-1.19, and like you said, all the diamonds it found were more expensive. (It found 9, starting at $3,335, and that one was an EGL, too.)
So I browsed through the depth % and table % info for the 9 diamonds it found, and it struck me that none of them were similar to your diamond's %s. Most had larger table% and smaller depth %. But I don't know much about the correct %s for a princess cut, so I looked that up and found a chart (http://www.diamondtutorials.com/articles/diamonds.tutorials/67/Princess_Cut_Chart.html) that explains it better. Apparently the table% on your diamond is "ideal" but the depth % knocks the diamond down to a "class 2B." That's still pretty high on the chart. So maybe it's not the answer.
My only other two thoughts: Is there anything else in the description that makes you wonder if the diamond has been "treated" (had "cosmetic surgery" of any type)? And are you comfortable with the retailer? I've noticed most of the retailers with diamonds listed on the diamond search engine I use have money-back guarantees for 30 days or more, and they are names I recognize (Blue Nile, Amazon.com, Mondera, James Allen, etc.).
I hope this helps.
