opal help/ whats wrong with amazon?
im just curious, but what kinds of opals are there?
i was on amazon and they said that a necklace had opal
it was a red crystal(they said it was fire opal)!!!!
Opals come in a wide range of colours, with the colour coming from inteference and diffraction of light. Opal is not crystalline, but like a gel. It is a hydrous form of silicon dioxide contianing up to 20% water. Wike gives a list of colours for opal, and notes that the most vaulable Gem opals are the fire opals (red colour) and black opals. I have a lovely sample of milk opal which is creamy white.
