In the mid 1500s, Portuguese settlers from Pernambuco founded Filipéia Nossa Senhora das Neves (today João Pessoa), at the mouth of the river Paraíba do Norte.

The bright colors of the tourmaline are due to the presence of copper. Around 2000, similar copper-containing tourmaline was found in Nigeria, but the colors are not as intense. Around 2005, beautiful crystals of copper-containing tourmaline is found in Mozambique.
Initially, Nomenclature of this tourmaline was "Paraiba tourmaline". Note the capitalization and the accent on the "i". In 2006, LMHC (Laboratory Manual Harmonization of the Committee) agreed that "Paraiba" to refer to a variety of tourmaline, and do not indicate a geographic origin.

Do crystals and gems have power?
My normally rational, college-educated sister entered a Gem shop in Arizona and felt an "intense feeling of peace and goodness," spent almost two hours in there chatting with the proprietor, and came out with a couple of crystals and stuff he gave her for free. I thought it was a manic episode, but she is still sticking with the crystals and says holding them makes her feel "right".
I want to know if there have been any scientific studies done on crystals, whether they in fact "give off" any energy and if so, how. What have you heard?

Crystals and gems have no power to say, as you are talking about here . However you can channel power through them; For example when the light from the sun go thru a specially shape piece of Quartz Crystal say that of a magnifying glass it can focuses the Sun light to a point and burn something. also Quartz crystals have electrical properties, when struck by a hammer lightly they can generate a small volt gate and when a alternating current is applied the crystal will flex in and out of shape. This property is use to keep watches on time and Radio stations in tune to their assigned frequency. and Rubies are use to make lasers but they need a light scource to make this happen. However My theory is that crystal works with what the Chinese call the Chee (or the bodies neural electricity) and somehow it can amplify the body's Electrical field and depending on the crystals used it helps the simulate healing process of the human body. however without research to prove or disprove this
I only guessing here. But as for having power, No. The Real power is alway been within you and God Himself. Crystals and gems can only channel what power is around them. Also if your sister is happy with her crystals then let her be happy. But keep Checking it out
