Gems And Precious Stones

Anyone with experience of searching for gems in North Carolina?
It seems somewhat Hiddenite NC is false or not worth the trip so much looking to stones, precious stones. Can anyone recommend a treasure somewhere between MD and N. Carolina where my family can spend a few days digging, sleuthing, creaking for precious stones, stones and even panning for gold. I have no idea and dont want to waste money or time, as many who have gone to NC Hiddenite mine. I'm not looking for rich, but I would like to know I was a chance of finding something that wasn't strategically put there by the workers. Thank you and I look forward to anyone's past experience. bill
we went Emerald hollow mine hiddenite yesterday. If you go, we actually received the most precious in the $ 10 buckets, as opposed to the $ 25 buckets Emeralds and Rubies. We saw someone who purchased for $ 100 bucket. He said he already had the best results but yesterday he had everywhere. It is primarily for fun or making jewelry. My uncle got 3 cuttable stones, me 3 or 4. We dig for the combo license, creeking and slucing. digging is way, way, way too difficult unless you physically some big strong guys with you. My uncle and cousin (contractor, fireman and football player) had difficulty even using the buckets as the kick lever. My father could not dig at all. He is 60 years old. the creeking was ok. My son liked it (for he is 4). I found 3 small pieces hiddenite and a decent piece of sapphire. when we returned, I would only creeking and slucing. they appear in the process of making the place a little nicer. Gem mountain we want to try next time. We had a very nice day so. oh, I have a small, small, small piece of gold, but I left him when my son went looking. He took what I thought was a big chunk of dirt, rock and when I washed it in the hotel, it was a sapphire.
