I've found the perfect second hand 4 seater couch, with very low back and low narrow arms, very simple and unfussy. There is hardly any couch really - it's nearly all cushions - two long narrow seat cushions, and four back cushions with one centre button each. I know it's a how long is a piece of string question, but....apart from fabric costs, what should I be roughly expecting to pay for reupholstery and/ or loose covers? It's a really solid couch from the sixties, heavy as lead, and possibly an original Parker (at least has that look about it) with very sixties style legs, so I'm certain it would be worth doing. I'm in Melbourne.

But as an upholsterer, I usually tell a person to expect to pay as much to reupholster as to buy new, but you get to pick the fabric...
Including the estimate, pick up and delivery, strip, cut, sew and upholsterer the TOTAL time is the best part of a week. What is a week of custom labor worth? or at least 4 days...
not to mention supplies... (dacron cotton, staples, twine, foam etc)
That being said, it probably IS worth doing. Sounds like the size, and shapes are right for you. If it costs the same as new, it's still the item you want... Get the frame knocked apart and glued as needed and the springs re-tied as needed...
(add another day for that)
