Paint question on a 1989 Buick-Deep ruby red color...?
My car has it's original paint on some parts (the roof and trunk top). The problem is that it looks like the old clear coat is flaking off and giving it that cloudy whitish look. I've noticed that a lot of cars of this vintage have similar paint issues. Anyhow, I can't afford a new paint job right now. I noticed that if I take and scrape the old clear coat with my fingernail, it comes off as a powdery residue. It does not seem to take off the actual paint. I am willing to work at getting all of it off, but my fingernails won't last thru the whole job! LOL! What can I use to get it off w/o hurting the paint too much? Also, is there any type of wax that might make it look at least presentable? I find those TV commercials a little hard to believe! Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks!

Go to Wal Mart and get a pick set from the tool department and be very careful. Then use a good carnuba car wax. You will need to wax often though.
